Ranking Higher on Google Maps: What 25 Measurements Actually Showed

"Where do we rank on Maps?" has no single-number answer. To say anything honest we had to measure, so since late August every business that wrote to us got the same procedure: the customer's real search phrase, the same query three times, identity confirmed by phone number, the median of three runs written into a ledger. The table below comes from that ledger; businesses are named by sector and city because the names belong to our clients.

Rank changes within an hour

A dental clinic in Kütahya measured a median of 6 at 17:47 and 4 at 18:08 the same day. A preschool in Darıca was 7 at 16:58 and 5 at 18:14. A hair-transplant centre in Ankara returned 6, 8, 6 across three runs. That is why we never tell a client "you are seventh"; we say "you appear between fourth and seventh". A single number is only safe when the case is beyond doubt: a kebab shop in Esenyurt, a taxi rank in Denizli and a dental clinic in Gerger came first in all three runs.

What decides the top spot?

In the listings we measured, the most visible gap between the top three and the rest is review count. The Darıca preschool has a 4.6 rating and 11 reviews; the competitor in first place has 45. A hose wholesaler in Aydın holds fourth place with 3.5 stars and 85 reviews, so review volume carries even a weak rating. Category accuracy is the second gap: for a parent searching "nursery", a listing whose primary category is "Preschool" outranks one filed under "Educational institution". The third is proof of life: recent photos, answered reviews, correct opening hours.

Verification is where time is lost

In two of six deliveries the listing had been created by a third party; Google's ownership-request process held things for three days and then asked for a video verification. For a scrap dealer whose listing we created from scratch, Google suggested a completely different company under "is this your business?"; the owner chose "no match" and sent the video, and the listing is under review as we write. Our first discovery question is now "who created the listing and who is the manager in the panel?", and delivery time is quoted accordingly: a few days if you own it, three to seven days if a third party does.

Some days cannot be measured

For some district queries the map returns no results at all, or a single listing. On such a day saying "you are not ranking" would be wrong; we write "could not be measured today" and repeat tomorrow. Likewise, a phone or website field the tool does not return does not mean the listing lacks it; we open the Maps page before saying "your phone is missing". We paid for a wrong diagnosis once, measuring a same-named company in another city and commenting on its site to a client; the correction cost a day.

What we do in the first 30 days

The order: correct primary and secondary categories, phone and website link, opening hours, a service list in the owner's own words ("class B manual and automatic", "A1 and A2 motorcycle"), the owner's raw photos (we do not upload edited images), then the review flow: a QR card and a one-sentence request at checkout. At month end the same query is measured with the same method and the two readings are written side by side. We do not guarantee rankings; Google decides. What we promise is that every step is delivered with a screenshot and every measurement is shared with its method.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I measure my own Maps rank?

Search the phrase your customer would type (district + service) in a private window, repeat it three times at different hours and take the middle value. A single search is a snapshot of that hour, not your ranking.

What should I do about review count?

Ask satisfied customers with one sentence at checkout and hand them the review link by QR or WhatsApp. Purchased or fake reviews get listings suspended; we do not use that route.

What if someone else created my listing?

An ownership request is sent to Google, three days pass, and a video verification usually follows. Delivery then takes three to seven days; we say so at discovery.

What does setup cost?

Maps listing setup is a one-off fee and monthly care is a subscription with a discounted first month; current figures are on our pricing page. Measurement and diagnosis are free in every case.
