Google Business Profile Suspended or Marked "Permanently Closed": Causes and What to Do (2026)
One morning you search for your business on Maps and it is either gone or shows a red "Permanently closed" label. The dashboard says suspended, you filed a reinstatement request and Google asks you to wait seven days. Roughly fifteen percent of the Maps enquiries we received since late August opened with exactly this sentence, and they were more decisive than the setup requests. The list below comes from those files; businesses are named by city and trade because they are our clients.
Suspended and "permanently closed" are not the same thing
A suspension means Google pulled the listing from public view on suspicion of a policy violation; it still exists in your dashboard. "Permanently closed" keeps the listing public and tells everyone the business shut down; it can come from a Google update, a user suggestion or the system distrusting the listing. The fixes differ: a suspension needs a reinstatement request with evidence, the closed label needs a dashboard correction first and then edits that make the listing trustworthy.
Five causes, always the same five
First, keyword-stuffed names. A shuttle rental company in Adana opened its listing as "Adana Shuttle Rental/Minibus Rental"; picking the words customers type feels smart, but Google's review is automated and it will not accept a name that reads like a search query without documents. "Others use the same name" is true, yet old listings are rarely re-checked while new and edited ones are. Second, duplicates: a carpet cleaner in Adana had opened three listings for one business and each new one knocked out the previous; once Google matches them, all go down. Third, ownership left with someone else: a kebab restaurant in Amasya had its listing created years ago by a son-in-law who has since passed away; the listing flipped to permanently closed and nobody had access. Google's ownership transfer takes three to seven days. Fourth, creating the listing on a brand-new Google account the same day: for a scrap dealer in Gaziantep a fresh Gmail account was opened and the listing created immediately; Google disabled the account as "possibly automated" and the listing and its verification stayed locked to it. Fifth, address inconsistency: the listed website pointed to a company in another city, the tax certificate showed a different address, or a business without premises entered a virtual address.
The reinstatement request must be complete the first time
The most common mistake is resubmitting with the same name and no evidence. Every rejection makes the next request harder, and a listing suspended three times is reviewed far more strictly. The right order: read the suspension reason, bring the listing into compliance (real business name, one listing, a real address or a hidden-address service area, correct category), then build the evidence file: tax certificate or trade registry entry, storefront photo with signage, vehicle and equipment photos, recent invoices, social media accounts. Plumbers, movers and transfer companies without an office are allowed: the address is hidden, the service area is set to the city and verification is done with a short video. Without documents the honest answer is that the appeal has low odds; documents first.
When photos stay "pending"
On a newly created or recently reinstated listing, photos and videos can sit as pending for days. That is not a suspension; Google reviews new listings' media manually and usually publishes within a week. Deleting and re-uploading resets the queue. On a suspended listing nothing you upload will publish, whatever the route; the listing comes first.
Nobody can guarantee the outcome, and neither do we
Google makes the final call. Anyone promising a guaranteed reinstatement is lying; we price the work, not the outcome, and say so up front. For suspension cases the first step is 990 TL: analysis of the suspension reason, the evidence checklist, a roadmap and the first submission, delivered in writing on WhatsApp within two to three days. If the listing has to be rebuilt or duplicates merged, the balance is collected before the submission to Google, 3,900 TL in total on the September rate; if a new suspension caused by the same structure arrives within thirty days, we file the appeal again at no charge. The numbers are public on our pricing page and the setup and monthly options are on the Google Business Profile page. If the listing is in your hands it takes a few days; if it sits with a third party, three to seven days, and we quote it that way instead of saying "a few days".
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I just delete the suspended listing and open a new one?
No. A second listing for the same business is treated as a duplicate and gets suspended for the same reason; this is the most frequent cause of repeated suspensions we see. Fix the existing listing and request reinstatement.
How long does reinstatement take?
Google says seven days; in our files it ranged from three to ten. If an ownership transfer is needed, add three to seven days. Resubmitting the same request does not move you up the queue.
I have no tax certificate and the business is in my own name. Can the listing be saved?
Appeals without documents have low odds. For a suspended listing Google wants proof that the business is real; if there is no tax certificate or invoice in your name, obtain one first, then apply. If the document is in someone else's name, the listing must match that business's name and address.
I have no office and serve customers at their address. Can I list without an address?
Yes. Google treats these as service-area businesses: the address is hidden, the districts served are listed and verification is done with a short video showing vehicles and equipment. Entering a virtual office or a home address is a suspension trigger.
